Modina Nisbet Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Charleston, WV- Modina "Mo" Smith Nisbet lost a courageous battle after complications from pneumonia on April 11, 2011. She was born May 20, 1934 in Crossville, TN, a daughter of the late John Chester Smith and Gladys Hall Smith. Modina and her family moved to Akron, OH early in her life. After graduation from high school, she went to work for J.C. Penney's where she met her soon to be future husband, Guy L. Nisbet, Jr. of Charleston, WV. She and Guy were married in Akron in May of 1955. Shortly thereafter, they returned to South Charleston, WV to start a family where they lived for 15 years until moving to Winfield, WV where she and Guy became the owner's/operator's of Winfield Supermarket. For the past seven years, Mo has been a resident of Charleston Gardens where she had many friends and enjoyed quite an active social life. Mo loved flowers, gospel music and her cat, Tiger, a long-time companion. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Select Specialty Hospital and Charleston Gardens for their gracious and loving care during Mo's time of illness. The family would also like to extend thanks and appreciation for the Reverend Richard and Edith Baker. In addition to her parents, Mo was also preceded in death by her husband, Guy L. Nisbet, Jr. and her sister, Imogene Oplinger. Mo is survived by her son, Guy L. Nisbet, III and his wife, Patricia of Dunbar and their family, Jessica R. Scalf and her husband, Harley of Gassaway, WV, Nathan R. Nisbet and his son, Carter, both of Dunbar, WV and Jonathan V. Nisbet of Scott Depot, WV. She is also survived by her daughter, Teresa A. Nisbet of Winfield, WV and her family, Bryant A. Nisbet and his wife, Crystal and their son, Tyler all of Sissonville, WV, Phillip S. Nisbet and his fiancée, Erica and their son, Phillip S., Jr. all of Huntington, WV, Medina Nicole Richmond and her son, Caden all of Winfield, WV. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Oralee Nisbet Zumbro and her husband, Mark of Bedford, PA, Emma Frances Nisbet Firetti of Columbia, MD, brother-in-law, Joe Oplinger and his wife, Dorothy of Hesperia, CA and two nieces, Valerie Kieffer Von Behren of Baltimore, MD and JoLynn Lamb and her family of North Pole, AK. Services will be 1pm Friday, April 15, 2011 at the chapel of Christ Church United Methodist, 1221 Quarrier Street, Charleston, WV with Dr. Randall F. Flanagan and Rev. Shauna Hyde officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, WV. Friends may visit at the church one hour prior to the service.
