Ralph Greene Sullivan

Ralph Greene Sullivan, 87, of Hurricane, formerly of Chelyan and Charleston, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at CAMC-Teays Valley. Born June 27, 1925 in Harriman, TN, Ralph was a son of the late Earl R. and LaUna Greene Sullivan. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian and Betty Sue Sullivan. Ralph was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chelyan and served his country with the United States Navy aboard the USS Essex. He looked forward to his May and September trips to Ormond Beach, FL each year. After retirement from Montgomery General Hospital, he went to work for HCCRA. Upon his second retirement he said, “Now we can go wherever you want to go!” And go we did…..to Mexico, Aruba, Spain, Italy, France, Sicily, Greece and all over the Mediterranean. We amassed some wonderful memories and was able to spend quality time together. Ralph always commented that Jaye was like American Express- Don’t leave home without her- and we didn’t. He enjoyed having his own personal tour director. Now he is about to embark on his greatest journey of all. We’re sure the angels in heaven will welcome him with open arms. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Joyce; his daughter and son-in-law, J. Jaye and Kevin McCoy of Scott Depot; one grandson, Tyler Sullivan McCoy, whom he affectionately referred to as “Lefty” (He liked having another “lefty’ in the family). Ralph is also survived by two brothers, Raymond Sullivan and his wife, Betty of Chesterfield, MO, James A. Sullivan and his wife, Edna of Jonesboro, GA; his sisters, Jean Brown of LaFollette, TN, Eloise Mitchell and her husband, Ronnie of Venice, FL. We would like to extend our thanks to Dr. Carroll and the staff of the Kanawha City VA office and also the Huntington VA office. They have helped to extend his quality of life by providing him with all of the things he needed. Our thanks are numerous as Ralph’s illness was lengthy. We also thank Dr. Clark and the staff of CAMC- Teays Valley and everyone at Teays Valley Center. Most of all, we want to thank our wonderful daughter and her family. Without all of her love and support, we would never have gotten through the last years of Ralph’s illness. We have been truly blessed.
