Richard "Dick" Green

Richard A. "Dick" Green, 57, passed away Saturday, August 25th at Thomas Memorial Hospital. Dick was born April 2nd, 1955 in Reading, Pennsylvania to Nancy (Kulp) and Jim Green. He graduated from Penn State University in 1976 and was a lifelong fan of both the Nittany Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles. Upon graduating college, he moved to the area to work for Union Carbide. He retired in 2011 after thirty-five years of service to Bayer CropScience and most recently worked for Aker Advantage with Jacobs Engineering. Dick loved playing and watching sports of all kinds, enjoyed the outdoors, and traveled extensively to various state and national parks. Throughout the community, though, he will best be remembered for his contributions through coaching local youth soccer for over three decades. Dick was the head coach of Hurricane High School girl?s soccer team from 1999 through 2008 and served the past two years as assistant coach for the high school girl?s soccer teams at Poca and Nitro. Whether in his work or in his coaching, he was admired by all for his pursuit of excellence and courteous manner. In addition to his parents, Dick is survived by his wife Georg-Ann (Erwin) Green; daughter Sarah Green of Houston, TX; daughter Katie Hays and husband Randy of Houston, TX; son Matt Green of Round Rock, TX; brother Jim Green and wife Nancy of Gaithersburg, Maryland; sister Sue Keagel and husband John of York, Pennsylvania; stepson Blaine Kelly and wife Caroline of Morristown, TN; stepdaughter Megan Johnson and husband Josh of Piney Flats, TN; granddaughters Ava and Harper Kelly; grandsons Jonah and Jackson Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by all for his loving devotion to his family, friends, and community. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane, with Minister Blaine Kelly officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or to the Nitro Wildcats Soccer Club for a scholarship fund in Dick?s memory.
