Wilma Asbury

Wilma Asbury was called home to be with her loving husband and two sons, Monday, February 13, 2017. Born on June 5, 1929 in Jackson County, WV. She grew up in the country and those roots stayed with her all her life. In December of 1948 she married the love of her life, Leonard Asbury, and they were married for 53 years before his passing in 2001. She raised five children, who were her life. She lived with her husband and children in Nitro until 1966, when work necessitated a move to Chicago and then to Coal City, IL until 2002, when she moved for the last time to Wilkes-Barre, PA after the death of her husband in 2001. She was a wife, a mother and homemaker who loved the simple things in life. Her favorite things other than spending time with her family, were, working in her flower garden and growing vegetables. She was extremely proud of her flowers and loved it when people would go past the house and she was sitting on the porch and they would comment on how lovely they were. During the winter months, when she could not get out, she enjoyed quilting. She made many a quilt out of clothes that belonged to her, her husband and her kids. It made it more personal when giving them to her kids or grandkids. She also enjoyed jarring her own bread and butter pickles and black raspberry jelly. Every year she would make up baskets for her kids and grandkids with her homemade goodies tucked inside. Wilma is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard G. Asbury (d. 1/25/2001), her two sons Edward L. Asbury (d. 11/27/2016) and Gregory L. Asbury (d. 3/5/2009) and her granddaughter, Lauren H. Foler (d. 1/29/1991). Surviving Wilma are her daughters, Gwendolyn G. Weihbrecht (Joe) of Halifax, PA, Connie Joyce Asbury of Wilkes-Barre, PA and Anita L. Foler (Louis) of Buffalo Grove, IL. Wilma had 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was loved by all. A graveside service will be held at 11am Saturday, Febraury 18, 2017 at Emma Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Liberty with Rev. Jerry Losh officiating.
