History & Staff

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

Chapman Funeral Home had its humble beginnings in Winfield, WV in 1959. John W. Chapman, Jr. first placed his own shingle in a small two-story home and lived upstairs with his wife, Jennie Margaret and two sons, John W., III and Thomas. John, Jr. built his reputation as a meticulous funeral director and friend to the community by attending to even the smallest details of funeral service and offering the finest of personal service to the families of the surrounding communities.

St. Albans

St. Albans

In the late 1900's, Bartlett brothers, O.J. "Bill" and Bruce, began a service to the residents of the Kanawha Valley in St. Albans, WV.  Bartlett Funeral Home was established in a small store front in St. Albans to handle the funeral needs of the Kanawha Valley.  In the early 1950's Tom Taylor and his wife, Helen, assumed ownership and continued to provide the Kanawha Valley with the same professional service as the Bartlett brothers.

In 1979, John and Debra assumed ownership of the Bartlett Funeral Home and in September, 1992 dedicated, the new Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home facility to the community.

In February of 2019, John and Debra Chapman sold the Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home business to long-time employee Tom Nichols. We wish Tom and his new staff much success on their future endeavors serving the wonderful St. Albans community.

Teays Valley

Teays Valley

In 1965, John W. Chapman, Jr. had the foresight to open a second location in the Teays Valley area of Putnam County, one of the fastest growing areas of West Virginia.

In 1987 a new facility was built in Teays Valley and was extended and completely renovated in 2002.  We now offer the largest single chapel in the Putnam County area with seating for well over 300 guests along with ample parking and spacious lounges for your comfort.

In 2011, in a continued effort to provide the families of the Kanawha Valley with excellence in funeral service, Chapman Funeral Home, completed an addition that includes an on-site crematory and a showroom devoted to cremation and green burial merchandise.
